Ever wonder why

Ever wonder why the average person looking for advice is steered to particular computers or peripherals in a super store? Do you know about SPIFFs in computer stores? If so, please write me. I've had several emails suggesting that this fairly common practice might be behind the anti-Mac behavior of CompUSA's sales people. A SPIFF is essentially a bribe, a direct but hidden incentive payment from the manufacturer/distributor/retailer to a sales person for selling a particular item. While seeking advice in a computer super store that allows SPIFFs may not be a good idea, the required posting of which items are subject to SPIFFs is a good idea. Why not call your local or state consumer affairs departments and ask? Why not write consumer advocacy organizations that SPIFFs are not spiffy?
