for NuBus PowerMacs. The MP 340 is a very good performer providing an incredible number of resolutions and refresh rates. The MP 340, with its Monitors and Picasso control panel, allows virtually any monitor to be hooked up to a NuBus PowerMac. Since many people may be upgrading their NuBus PowerMac with a G3 CPU card that goes in the Processor Direct Slot where their current video card is, the MP 340 provides a NuBus slot alternative.

How was CompUSA's Apple Store Grand Opening Celebration at your local CompUSA? I visited the Tysons Corner, VA, CompUSA mid-afternoon on Saturday. For the first time, there was a red-shirted CompUSA employee (I think) in the Apple Store. He was fairly besieged by a half-dozen potential customers with several waiting to talk to him so I didn't try to break into the conversation. I listened in and he seemed to know his Mac stuff pretty well. I hope he stays since I had never seen him in that CompUSA before. I checked if the advertised merchandise was available and it seemed that most was, including the Power3D cards and one box of the game "Myth." The monitor specials were not in the Apple Store but in the general monitor section. The dual Mac/Wintel "Legacy of Time" game was marked with a $20 rebate in the Wintel section but not the Mac section. On Sunday mid-afternoon, it was much the same but with two white-shirted Apple Demo Team members working the store. The guy I'd seen Saturday was not around but then again it was Sunday. I knew one of the Apple Demo Team members, Scott a local Apple Developer and Apple Certified Tech who had volunteered for the event. He said the crowd was very large at times. There were many customers waiting to talk so I left him alone. Both Team members were busy the entire time I was there. Better yet, on both days I saw people in the cashier lines with Apple computer boxes in their baskets! Let me know how it went in your area and I'll summarize.

Many readers responded to Saturday's request for comments on the "pro" version of MicroFrontier's Enhance 4.0--a less expensive Photoshop-like application. All responded that they did not know of a "pro" version beyond v4.0.1. They did, however, give very high marks to Enhance v4. 0.1. I tested the Double Shut Down Bug Fix on two more computers this weekend, a 9600 and a 3400. It fixed the problem on both. The fix is an Apple Script application written by Robert Giseburt and made available by MacInTouch.
