[Update] Apple Reposted Power Mac G4 Firmware Update as v4.2.8 and it is available for download. The update is for G4 Power Macs with AGP slots running Mac OS 9.1 or later. It must be installed while running Mac OS 9.1 or greater. Apple originally posted a firmware update v4.1.9 for G4 Power Macs but then quickly pulled it as we were first to note.

    "Firmware Update 4.2.8 includes improvements to starting up Mac OS X from the local hard disk, FireWire target disk mode, network startup, gigabit networking (on systems with gigabit hardware), and system stability. This update also adds support for additional security options that allow the Open Firmware to be password-protected."
