Brief Hands-On Report--ATI August 2005 Mac RADEON ROM Update, Nothing New?

As we noted on Friday, ATI posted a new ROM Update (August 2005) for its retail Mac RADEON graphics cards. We tried to update our ATI Radeon X800 XT graphics card with it over the weekend. The ROM updater appeared to run but it did nothing. We already had ROM firmware version 113-A35801-109 from a previous standalone update for the X800 XT and we had the same version after the restart. However, that may not be true for all supported Radeon cards. It would be nice if ATI included such information in its release notes like Apple does with its iPod firmware updates. [Bill Fox]
